Welcome to the Shrine of St. Therese!

We are excited that you are considering joining the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA), Rite of Christian Initiation for Children (RCIC) or Adult Confirmation programs here at the Shrine!

The decision to receive the Sacraments of the Holy Catholic Church consists of following a very special process of classroom instruction, prayer, and discernment. To receive the Sacraments means that you desire to become an active part of the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. To become part of the Cathoilic Church means that you gain a worldwide fellowship of Christian believers who are also on the life long journey of holiness together. We rejoice that you are listening to the prompting of the Holy Spirit who is beckoning you to learn more about the Catholic Faith. We pray that the process will bear much fruit in your life. Even if you discern that you are not yet ready to join the Church, you are most welcome to attend the classes here at the Shrine.

The Sacraments of Initiation in the Catholic Church are:
  • Baptism
  • Eucharist (Reconciliation)
  • Confirmation
There are four classifications of indiduals who may receive Sacraments within the Catholic Church:

  1. Catechumens: Adults (over the age of 16) who have never been Baptized.
  2. Candidates: Adults (over the age of 16) who were either Baptized in the Catholic Faith, or in another Christian Tradition, but have not yet received any other Sacraments.
  3. Adult Confirmation: Adults (over the age of 16) who have received all of the other Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Reconciliation, Eucharist) but have not yet been confirmed.
  4. Children (over the age of 7): who have either never been Baptized (will be concidered a Catechumen), or who still needs to receive Confession/Eucharist and is above the typical age (2nd - 3rd grade) for reception of those 2 Sacraments. For these children, you must complete one year of Religious Education prior to enrollment in the RCIC Eucharist/Reconciliation Course.
Children under the age of 7: Parents are encouraged to attend the Baptism Preparation Classes, complete its requirements, and have the child Baptized. After Baptism, children are to attend Religious Education in subsequent years to continue to learn more of the Catholic Faith.

2015-16 Calendar

Catechetical Instruction: A Dual Approach

Formation: Both in home on-line and at the Parish-

Providing Adults with tools to grow in the knowledge of their faith is of deep importance to the Leadership of the Shrine. To this end, the RCIA Program will utilize the Symbolon Program, which provides a rich understanding of the Catholic Faith.

It is with great joy that we now offer Symbolon Adult Formation as a combination approach; both within the convenience of your own home on-line and bi-weekly Parish Formation Sessions. For a complete Session Listing see Calendar here.

Need further details? Please contact the Parish Office and we would love to get to know you.

Welcome! Sessions will begin on Sunday September 20, 2015 and will conclude in June of 2016. Sessions will run bi-weekly from 11:45 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. on Sundays. To build community during the sessions, participants will take turns bringing snacks to share together as a group.

All sessions are led by Deacon Buddy Rodriguez and use the informative Symbolon Formation Program.

This session is geared to assisting you in learning more about the weekly Biblical Readings and understanding them in a Catholic perspective.

Shrine Registration and Mass Attendance

Members of the various Sacramental Programs are asked to become registered members of the Shrine of St. Therese. Additionally, regular Mass attendance at the Shrine is expected.

Classroom Instruction:
As a participant, you will enjoy classes that survey the story of Salvation, beginning in the Old Testament and culminating in the New Testament. You will gain an understanding for the necessity of the Redemption from our sins through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ, the nature and purpose of the Sacraments of the Church, our need for God, and a deeper appreciation of the necessity of the Holy Catholic Church.

Additional Ceremonies - The Rites:
Throughout the journey of conversion, you will partake in a variety of special ceremonies called the Rites. The Rites take place in the midst of the Parish Community during the celebration of the Holy Mass on several Sundays throughout the year. These Rites are special times of recognition, prayer, anointing and affirmation within the community. You will receive the dates of these special Rites at the beginniing of the year. It is important that your Sponsor attend with you.

Finding a Sponsor:
You will need to find a person to act as your Sponsor for the duration of the RCIA/RCIC/ Adult Confirmation Process. A Sponsor is someone who is a Confirmed, practicing Catholic whose faith you admire and who you feel would be able to walk the journey of faith with you.

Ideally, the Sponsor would be a person who lives in town and would be able to attend the classes with you. However, if you choose an out of town person, please maintain frequent contact with them throughout the process.

Additionally, if your Sponsor does live out of town, you must find a Catholic individual to act as a proxy for all of the special ceremonies.
